Domestic Rye Cultivation
Growing Domestic Rye
Hanook Whole Grain produces healthy, safe food from non-pesticide domestic rye.
Preparing for sowing
Using non-disinfected domestic scalloped rye seeds for making whole rye bread, we started sowing in Daeji-ri and Amgi-ri pavements in Yeongcheon, Gyeongbuk.
Seeding method
- Scatter seeds with a distributed power spreader
- Lightly disturb the soil with a tractor

Germination and early growth
- Mid-November: The domestic durum wheat has germinated and sprouts have begun to rise above the soil.
- Mid-December: The sprouts were growing well, covering the entire field in green, showing healthy growth.
Overwintering and care
- It survived the winter with a vigorous life in sub-zero temperatures and snow.
- However, the waiting pavement is located near a forested area and has experienced damage from harmful tides (elk).

Spring growth and development
- The proximity of the reservoir provides a favorable environment for farming, with beautiful scenery and well-equipped repair facilities.
- He's grown to be about the height of a human being, standing at 6-feet tall.
Grow state differences
- Standby repaving had somewhat weaker growth than dark repaving due to harmful tides and differences in soil fertility.
- However, it recovered with the start of a new buncle (a crop growth process similar to pruning).
Harvesting and management
When to harvest
- The rainy season was carefully managed to reduce the risk of lodging (crop collapse) and water sprouting (grains sprouting before they are ripe).
Cultivation Features
- The rye didn't compete with weeds, allowing for pesticide-free cultivation, and its above-ground dominance (covering weeds to suppress their growth) kept growth stable.
